Orlando T. Bogins

When you think of a dedicated, diligent and determined Educator to set high goals for his students, staff and parents, please think of Mr. Orlando T. Bogins, Principal of the phenomenal Golightly Education Center.  Principal Bogins started within the realms of Education in 1995 and started with Detroit Public Schools Community District, soon thereafter.  For many years, Mr. Bogins always knew he wanted to be an Educator. This dream was stapled in his mind because of a lack of African American male teachers throughout his educational journey.

Therefore, after graduating high school, Mr. Bogins attended Clark Atlanta University and Wayne State University obtaining his Bachelors in English Education and Master’s in Educational Leadership.  Mr. Bogins’ dream became a reality after completing his student teaching at his alma mater, Cass Technical High School.  From there, he went on to educate many students across the city by serving in the capacity of English and Yearbook Teacher, Reading Specialist, Lead English Teacher, Testing Coordinator, Acting Counselor, Curriculum Coordinator and Assistant Principal.  Mr. Bogins has a great concern not only for teaching the concept of many diverse genres of literature, but ensuring his students are productive citizens to this world.  Many of his students have made a significant impact onto the world whether it was in the field of the Arts, Humanities, Religion and Service.

Mr. Bogins has been the Principal of Golightly Education Center, (Home of the Gators), since November 2017, and simply loves it.  As an instructional and operational leader, Mr. Bogins has established many partnerships, programs and pivotal roles for all students, staff and parents.  Under his leadership, he has implemented honor classes, increased student enrollment, increased student test scores and added additional electives for his students.  He has changed the culture of the building that will continually showcase student achievement in a safe and secure environment.
