The streets around Maybury Elementary burst into color, music, and joy as students, staff, families, and community members came together for the school’s annual Cinco de Mayo parade!

With maracas shaking, sombreros bobbing, and banners flying high, every class proudly marched around the school block, transforming an ordinary school day into a lively cultural celebration. Students spent the week preparing for the big event—designing handmade signs, crafting bright and bold noisemakers, and building eye-catching banners that fluttered in the spring breeze.

Each class brought their own flair to the parade route. Some students wore traditional festive attire, complete with embroidered dresses and vibrant ribbons, while others waved Mexican flags high above their heads. Colorful paper flowers, glittering hats, and cheerful chants filled the air as the parade made its way around the neighborhood.

Families and community members lined the sidewalks with cameras, cheers, and applause, turning the parade into a mini-festival. The support and excitement from the crowd was felt by every student marcher, many of whom beamed with pride at being part of such a spirited celebration.

“It was so much fun making our hats and signs in class,” said a second-grader. “I loved seeing everyone’s costumes and waving to my mom!”
