Reminders to Ensure Everyone's Safety as We End the School Year

May 19, 2025

DPSCD Families and Students,

As we near the end of the school year, we want to emphasize the continued importance of continuing to attend school daily. I also want to remind all families to continue to check backpacks for weapons and illegal substances. It is important that we remind all students that they should never consume any candy that was not directly purchased. The unfortunate increased accessibility to candy with marijuana (edibles) has led to a dramatic increase in students being taken to the hospital after experimenting with or accidentally taking edibles. As always, continue to monitor your children’s cell phones and social media accounts, and please ensure they are coming straight home after school or to a safe environment.

Due to an increase of negative incidents between students or among families after school, school buildings and campuses will be actively cleared after dismissal except for a limited number of school sponsored after school activities. Visitors into schools will also be limited for the remainder of the school year.

If you have any reason to believe your child is in danger or is being threatened, then please immediately contact your child’s school and we will intervene to ensure everyone’s safety. Threats or attacks toward students, staff, or family members will not be tolerated and such behavior could lead to the suspension, removal, expulsion, or restriction of any student or family member from our schools.

We have had an overall outstanding school year as it relates to improved student attendance, student achievement, and climate and climate; let us continue to work together to have a positive end of the school year with three weeks remaining.

Sincerely,

Nikolai P. Vitti, EdD

Superintendent
