Rising and Securing the Bags: The Class of 2025 “Did That”

Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) proudly recognizes the outstanding achievements of the Class of 2025, celebrating students who have earned remarkable scholarship awards and prestigious university acceptances. “Our students throughout the city and our district are absolutely amazing and deserving of all the accolades bestowed upon them. They have worked hard and dedicated time and energy towards academic excellence. I am especially proud and excited to congratulate DSA with 109 graduates earning over 4 million in scholarships” says Dr. Lisa Reynolds, principal at the Detroit School of Arts.
Leading the list of million-dollar scholarship recipients is Milton Jennings from Cass Technical High School, who has been awarded an impressive $2,124,300 in scholarship funds. He has received offers from more than 10 universities, including Columbia, Princeton, and Stanford.
Renaissance High School proudly celebrates nine outstanding students who have each secured over one million dollars in scholarship offers. Leading the group is Christian Cohill, who has earned an impressive $1,901,400 in scholarships from more than 30 universities, with 20 of these scholarships awarded specifically for his achievements in band.
Following closely behind is Ania Allen, who has been awarded $1,781,872, followed by Toluwaleyi Meadows with $1,591,168, Sade Oloyede with $1,548,965.52, Hannah Thompson with $1,326,812, Ava White with $1,191,180, Lance Stone with $1,144,142, Niomi Smith with $1,126,168, and Jeremiah Gill with $1,020,428. These students’ hard work, dedication, and talent have earned them incredible opportunities for their futures. Their achievements are a testament to the school's commitment to academic excellence and extracurricular success.
“The Class of 2025 exudes what it means to be a Phoenix. Our 208 seniors earned over $62 million in scholarships this year. I am over the moon proud of our students. Their hard work, determination, and academic excellence truly reflect Renaissance High School. They are an inspiration to us all to see what can be done with dedication and a steadfast commitment to their education”, says Verynda Stroughter, Principal at Renaissance High School.
Anyla Harrington, also from Cass Tech, received $1,522,292 in scholarships with offers from over 20 universities, including Howard University, Alabama State, Clark Atlanta University, and Hampton University, continuing the proud tradition of HBCU excellence.
Brandee Dallas from Cass Tech secured $1,073,294 in scholarships and received acceptance letters from more than 10 universities, including the highly regarded Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.
Rounding out this distinguished group of scholarship recipients, Dhamani Trice-Hanson from Detroit School of Arts has been awarded an impressive $1,029,990 and will continue his educational journey this fall at the prestigious University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Cass Tech continues to excel, with 80 students from the Class of 2025 heading to the University of Michigan, marking a significant achievement for the school.
Nicole Carter, Senior Director of High School Counseling, shared her admiration for the students’ success, "We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievements and the dedication they have shown in pursuing higher education opportunities. The scholarships awarded so far this year are a testament to their hard work, resilience, and the unwavering support of our school counselors, teachers, and families. We remain committed to guiding every student toward academic and personal success."
Additionally, Kristiana Dove, a senior from Southeastern High School, earned an acceptance letter from the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, highlighting the diverse success across DPSCD.
Avery Hurd, the first in his family to attend college, shares what receiving scholarships means to him “tuition-free.” Mr. Hurd encourages his peers, saying, “It’s never too early to start looking for colleges and scholarships. There are countless opportunities out there, and some scholarships are awarded based on GPA, SAT scores, or essays. You just have to apply.”
Hurd expresses his gratitude and excitement at making his family proud of his accomplishments. This fall, he will be attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
