Celebrating DPSCD’s Top Educators of the Year 2025

Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) proudly honored the 2025 Educators of the Year in a special luncheon celebrating the exceptional contributions of educators and staff across the district. The event, held at the Garden Theatre on Thursday, June 12, 2025, brought together Board Members, Dr. Vitti, families, and colleagues to applaud the dedication and impact of those shaping the future of education.
Throughout the celebration, attendees enjoyed a delicious meal while viewing a video presentation from the Evening of Fine Arts, highlighting the incredible talents of students across the district. The luncheon also featured words of reflection from DPSCD Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti, emphasizing the importance of celebrating those who make a difference every day. The highlight of the afternoon was the much-anticipated announcement of the winners in each category.
Meet the 2025 Educators of the Year
DPSCD is thrilled to recognize the following individuals for their excellence in education and unwavering commitment to student success:
- AFSCME Support Staff of the Year: Countess Hall, Munger Elementary School
- DFP Paraprofessional of the Year: Valerie King, Priest Elementary – Middle School
- DAEOE Administrative Support of the Year: Cynthia Davis, Pershing High School
- OSAS School-Based Administrator of the Year: Tamara Hopkins, John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy
- Central Office Employee of the Year: Dr. Gabrielle Johnson, Literacy
- Assistant Principal of the Year: Zachary Carr Jr., Denby High School
- Principal of the Year: Michelle Davis, Davis Aerospace Technical High School at Golightly
- DFT Instructional Support Staff of the Year: Denise Barnes Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School
- DFT Rookie Teacher of the Year: Willie Thomas, Bates Academy
- DFT Teacher of the Year: Dr. Mia A. Rollack Pulaski Elementary – Middle School
