Amirah Stewart: Headed to Ferris State to Study Human Resources
June 26, 2025
We continue to celebrate the achievements of seniors who have thrived within Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). Among them is Amirah Stewart, a graduating senior from Mumford High School, whose experiences have shaped her resilience, independence, and deep sense of community.
Amirah’s journey through DPSCD taught her invaluable life skills. Starting at a young age, she developed self-sufficiency and discipline by waking up early, and walking to school. But beyond personal growth, her time at DPSCD instilled a strong sense of community.
"We really are all we've got. We are a community, and while people may look down on us because of where we come from, we stick together,”said Amirah
Amirah shared that one of her fondest memories was movie days in grade school, where the excitement of popcorn, cotton candy, juice, and cake created moments of pure joy.
Through her education, Amirah learned that success isn’t just about movies and academics, it’s about perspective, kindness, and embracing challenges. She encourages younger DPSCD students to take advantage of opportunities, ask questions, and engage fully in their learning experiences.
"Make the best out of every situation. There’s always going to be someone with less, so be kind and outgoing. Don’t be afraid to interact with new people or ask questions. Don’t be scared to be the only one raising your hand,” said Amirah
This fall, Amirah will take the next step in her educational journey at Ferris State University, where she will study Human Resources. Her commitment to personal growth and helping others build successful careers begins an exciting new chapter. She carries with her the lessons and values learned while attending school at DPSCD, ready to embrace the future with confidence.
As she moves forward, Amirah shares this final piece of advice:
"Never look like what you're going through. Be kind to others; you never know what someone else is dealing with. Set goals, shoot for the stars, and be happy,” said Amirah.
Congratulations, Amirah! Your DPSCD family is proud of you, and we can’t wait to see all that you accomplish in the future.
