DPSCD holds yearly Principals Academy as start of new school year on Sept. 8 draws near
For Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) principals, August signals the start of their sprint toward the new school year that will quickly become a full gallop as the end of the month approaches. To help aid in their preparation for the September 8 return to school, the District’s more than 100 principals gathered online for their annual Principal’s Academy (the week of Aug. 10-17) to share ideas, build collegiality, take part in intense professional development and network.
Among the topics highlighted this week were strategies the principals could use to engage their students, teachers, staff and school community through the District’s Return to School plan which features face to face and online learning options for District families. In addition, there were discussions on the safety and support measures that are in place for students, teachers and staff who will be participating in face to face learning. “Having the principals together online helped generate ideas and will lead to actions that best serve our students and families in the new school year,” said Nidia Ashby, Asst. Superintendent of Schools in the District. “We are all living with a new normal.”
The Principal’s Academy, Dr. Vitti’s Tele-Town Hall meetings this month, which included members of the District’s Board of Education, neighborhood canvassing and Pop-Up Enrollment locations are among the many ways the District is preparing to see your students rise when the new school year begins on September 8. You are encouraged to complete your with your preferred option for either face to face or online learning by August 21. The survey will require the student login credentials to complete.
Remember, DPSCD is saving a seat for your child this fall whether it is for online or face to face learning. Be part of your students rise by enrolling your child in a DPSCD school today.
