Updated 4/9/2021
Please find this important update from DPSCD Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti for District staff and students:
According to a recent update from the City of Detroit Health Department, staff and students who are deemed to be in “close contact” with a positive COVID-19 case are required to quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure and remain in quarantine even if they test negative for COVID during that time (this is longer than the previous 10 day requirement). After 14 days and if no symptoms are present the student or staff member can return to school/work.
New guidance from the Health Department also specifies that any student or staff member who has been fully vaccinated (e.g. two weeks after the second Moderna and Pfizer vaccine or two weeks after the single Johnson & Johnson vaccine) will not need to quarantine if they are deemed to be a close contact but should still monitor themselves for symptoms. Note that this only applies to students and staff who have submitted evidence of a complete vaccine. If a complete vaccine card is not on file then the individual must still quarantine for 14 days.
As a reminder, staff must upload a copy of their complete COVID-19 vaccination card via this link: http://bit.ly/dpscdvaccine
Students who are vaccinated will have their information automatically entered into the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) by the vaccine providers.

Participate in Detroit’s “Neighborhood Vaccine Week”
The District is partnering with the City of Detroit's "Neighborhood Vaccine Week" to provide free COVID-19 vaccine access at seven (7) DPSCD school locations during the week of Monday, April 12th - Friday, April 16th.
“DPSCD is excited to partner with the City to provide greater neighborhood access to the vaccine,” said DPSCD Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti. “We know that greater access and use of the vaccine not only protects us from COVID-19 but allows more families to send their children to school.”
Anyone +18-years-old is eligible to receive the one shot Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine between the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m at the locations below. Anyone 16+ can make an appointment for the Pfizer vaccination at one of the other city vaccination sites by calling (313) 230-0505. On January 11, 2021, the City of Detroit’s Heath Department started offering COVID-19 vaccines for all K-12 teachers and school staff meaning DPSCD teachers, support staff and administrators were eligible to make appointments to receive a vaccination at no cost.
As vaccine eligibility requirements have expanded to now include anyone who is 16 years of age or older, we will encourage eligible individuals to receive a vaccination, however it is not mandatory.
