June’s in person regular board meeting brought the positive tradition back to pre-pandemic traditions. The Board and Dr. Vitti recognized the Online Learning Task Force for their commitment to excellence. This group of 200 committed volunteers whose responsiveness and insight helped the District navigate through researching and planning to make online learning more accommodating for teachers, students, and families. Through several virtual discussions over the Winter, the taskforce offered invaluable insight and recommendations. During the Board Meeting, Jeremiah Hill 8th grade student at Bates Academy, was praised for his leadership and passion while participating on the Task Force. Dr. Vitti acknowledged, Jeremiah who often reaches out to him with feedback and suggestions on issues the District is tackling. The Board and Dr. Vitti presented Jeremiah with a Certificate of Excellence.
The Board and Dr. Vitti also recognized Dominic Gonzales, a senior at Academy of Americas (AOA). Dominic’s served the community and his school during his time at AOA. He earned the distinction of serving on Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Return to Learn COVID-19 Advisory Council in 2020, being the sole student voice of the group. In addition, he served his fellow students by being an assistant football coach for the AOA middle school football team among other leadership roles in the District. Dr. Vitti said he is one to watch!
