DPSCD School Spotlight of the Week: Garvey Academy is dedicated to honoring and celebrating African heritage through its robust African-Centered Education (ACE), serving students from Pre-K to 8th grade. Every lesson, activity, and experience is designed to instill a deep appreciation for history, traditions, and values, fostering a nurturing environment where cultural pride meets academic excellence. Garvey offers unique extracurricular programs such as the Ujoma Debate Team, which builds critical thinking and public speaking skills, the Sister Circle Rites of Passage program which which empowers young girls with leadership and cultural understanding, and African Drum and Dance, which celebrates the rhythm and beauty of African culture through vibrant performances. This innovative approach equips students with a strong foundation for personal growth, academic achievement, and community leadership. Admissions for the 2025-26 school year open on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 12 p.m. Join the Garvey Academy community and provide your child with an enriching, culturally vibrant education. DPSCD School Counselor Spotlight of the Week: On behalf of the Wayne Elementary School community, Principal Kimberly Dawkins would like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate Dr. Starks for National School Counseling Week!
