DPSCD Staff of the Week: We’re excited to celebrate Coach Barry Cannon of Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School for being named a 2025 Positive Athletic Director Award winner! Out of more than 12,000 nominees from over 3,300 high schools nationwide, fewer than 1% are selected for this prestigious honor—making this recognition a true testament to Coach Cannon’s exceptional character, leadership, and unwavering commitment to student success both on and off the field. Coach Cannon will be honored at the award ceremony tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24, held at Comerica Park. We are #DPSCDProud of you, Coach Cannon—thank you for continuing to put Students First and for inspiring Excellence every day!

Summer on the Block: DPSCD Families, join the Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team Thursday, June 26, 2025, for Summer on the Block. There are two locations and times to fit your schedule: Nichols Elementary – Middle School, 3000 Burns Street, Detroit, MI 48214, 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. or Carstens Elementary – Middle School 13000 Essex Avenue, Detroit MI 48215, 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. There will be free food, giveaways, fun activities for the children as well as resources and enrollment support for families. Parent Listening Session: Join the conversation online for an engaging Parent Listening session with Board President, Bishop Corletta J. Vaughn Ph.D. and Superintendent, Dr. Nikolai Vitti. This important discussion will take place virtually on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11 a.m. Come receive important updates about DPSCD and take this opportunity to stay informed and connected with our school community.

Summer Access to DPSCD Health HubsDPSCD families, four Health Hubs sites located at Denby High School, East English Village Preparatory Academy at Finney, Mumford High School, and Western International High School, will remain open with limited hours during Summer Break. These sites offer food distribution, essential items, and connections to vital school and community services. Navigators are on-site to support families, and walk-in appointments are welcome. Family Resource Distribution Center (FRDC) appointments are available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For full site details, including addresses and contact numbers, view the district website.
