DPSCD Student Spotlight of the Week: This summer, three outstanding juniors will take their academic journeys abroad to Florence, Italy, diving into the heart of Renaissance art and culture. Congratulations to Kamora Lomeli-Hoskins from East English Village Preparatory Academy at Finney, and Jeremiyah E.J. Jackson and Onanna C. Jacy from Cass Technical High School! These talented students have been awarded the prestigious Palazzo Strozzi High School Renaissance Award, a scholarship presented by the Palazzo Strozzi Foundation USA in partnership with the Departments of Education in New York, Los Angeles, and Detroit.We’re proud of their achievements and excited for the global experiences ahead. Summer on the Block: DPSCD Families, join the Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team Thursday, July 10, 2025, for Summer on the Block. There are two locations and times to fit your schedule: Gardner Elementary School, 6528 Mansfield St. Detroit, MI 48226, 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. or Bow Elementary –Middle School 19801 Prevost St, Detroit MI 48235, 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. There will be free food, giveaways, fun activities for the children as well as resources and enrollment support for families. Join ESE at the African World Festival: The Office of Exceptional Student Education will be participating in the African World Festival hosted by the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. This three-day event will take place from Friday, July 18 - Sunday, July 20 at Hart Plaza. The Office of Exceptional Student Education will have three tents for our ESE students and families. Save the Date for the 41st Annual Metro Detroit Youth Day: Get ready for a day full of energy, learning, and fun at the 41st Annual Metro Detroit Youth Day on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM at Belle Isle (between Scott Fountain and the Casino). Families with students ages 8–15 are invited to join this exciting event focused on youth empowerment through education, sports, and community engagement. DPSCD staff from various departments will be on site providing valuable resources and support to families. Rain Date: Thursday, July 10, 2025.
