Expect Respect: Service & Citizenship
Starting 2020 with Positivity
We were excited to start the new year with our monthly Expect Respect assembly. Our counselors launched our January focus areas of Service and Citizenship. During the assembly, students collectively discussed positive character traits and ways to be a respectful citizen. Students also explored the meaning of service and members of the community that provide services for others. Officer Godbee of the DPSCD Police Department was our guest speaker and engaged students in real discussions about what it means to serve and protect. After the initial excitement of learning about official police gear, the students were able to learn valuable information about the day to day services that police officers provide to the community. Officer Godbee feels "It's important for them to see police when no one's in trouble," and for many of our students, this was their first time hearing the positive side of the police force. We hope his visit will make a lasting impression. Throughout the month, students will continue to participate in activities and talks about service and citizenship and we encourage families to do the same at home.
Appreciating Law Enforcement
Every year on January 9, our nation celebrates National Law Appreciation Day. As a token of our own appreciation for DPSCD officers that service our schools and community, we presented Officer Godbee with a "money tree". We could never repay police officers for all they do, but we felt it was the best way to say "Thank You"!
