Central Office Employee of the Year Finalist: LeKisha Franklin-Shorter

The DPSCD Employee of the Year event, held at the Gem Theater, celebrated outstanding educators who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and effectiveness in their roles. The finalists in the Central Office Employee of the Year category exemplified excellence in their respective fields, showcasing a commitment to student success and a passion for education that goes beyond the classroom.

While LeKisha Franklin-Shorter was not the recipient of the award, her recognition as a finalist underscores her significant impact on the DPSCD community. Her commitment to fostering inclusive educational environments and supporting students' transitions into adulthood continues to inspire her colleagues and the families she serves.

A proud Detroit native, she has held various roles, including paraprofessional, teacher, transition specialist, and currently serves as an ESE Supervisor. Throughout her career, Lekisha Franklin-Shorter has been passionate about supporting students in their transition from school to adulthood, focusing on creating opportunities for success beyond graduation. Her philosophy, “I truly believe that a person’s ability supersedes any disability,” has helped build confidence and resilience in the students and families she works with.
