Henry Ford Debate Team Does It Again – Back-to-Back Champs!

Cue the applause and break out the celebratory snacks – the Henry Ford Debate Team has done it again! On Saturday, our mighty debaters took home the Umoja League Championship title for the second year in a row, proving that when it comes to speaking facts, logic, and straight fire arguments, nobody does it better than The Ford.

The road to the crown wasn’t just paved – it was paved in gold. We went undefeated across all four rounds, shutting it down with skill, strategy, and the kind of swagger that only comes with hours of preparation and pure heart.

Kicking things off in the morning, Tanilah McGee and Yasmine Goode showed out, taking down Renaissance and DSA back-to-back with performances so sharp they practically needed a warning label. Their high scores launched Ford into second place headed into the semis – and that’s when the momentum really kicked in.

Next up: Anthony Peete and Adriel Moravec held it down in the semi-finals, squaring off with Renaissance again and leaving no doubt about who runs the show.

But the final round? Oh, the drama! It was a championship rematch with none other than Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, the #1 seed. With tension high and the stakes higher, Chamel Green and Adriel Moravec dug deep and delivered an electrifying performance, edging out JRLA by a nail-biting 1.3 points. That’s not a win – that’s a statement.

And let’s talk about Yasmine Goode, the senior powerhouse who secured Best Speaker for the second time this season. Yasmine, you are what the kids call that girl – articulate, fierce, and flat-out unstoppable.

As a reward for their excellence, the team has earned a 7-day Civil Rights History bus tour from Washington, D.C. to Atlanta this August. Not only will they get to walk the path of legends, but they’ll also meet with college recruiters and HBCU debate programs, with a little fun and sightseeing sprinkled in – because winning deserves celebration!

Henry Ford High School, let’s make some noise for our champs – our thinkers, our leaders, our voice of the future. This isn’t just a win. This is a legacy. 💙🗣️🏆
