Denby High School Students Inspire Young Readers at Wayne Elementary
Wayne Elementary was excited today as we kicked off March is Reading Month with some very special visitors! Students from Denby High School came to our school to celebrate the joy of reading with our K-5 students.
The high school students started the day by reading to our kindergarten, first, and second-graders. Our younger students sat wide-eyed as they listened to stories of adventure, laughter, and meaningful life lessons. Some even got to ask questions and talk about their favorite book characters!
For our third, fourth, and fifth graders, the Denby students led small group discussions about what it’s like to be in high school and the importance of keeping good grades. They also had powerful conversations about citizenship and good character, learning that they won’t be able to play sports or participate in other school activities if they don't show good character.
One of the most interesting discussions was when the Denby students shared what they would do differently if they could return to their fifth-grade selves. They encouraged our Rockets to stay focused, work hard, and always make good choices.
March is Reading Month, celebrating books, learning, and growing as readers. Today’s visit showed us that reading isn’t just for school—it’s something we can enjoy for life!
A big thank you to the students from Denby High School for inspiring our Wayne Rockets to reach for the stars through reading, learning, and good character. 🚀📚
🎉 Happy Reading Month, Wayne Rockets! Keep soaring high! 🎉
