Ms. Surinder Sandhu

Welcome, DPSCD Virtual Families,

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the Assistant Principal of the DPSCD Virtual School. With over 34 years in education—including 24 years in urban school districts and 15 years at the community college level—I bring a deep commitment to student success and lifelong learning.

Since joining DPSCD in March 2022, I’ve had the privilege of teaching middle and high school students in our virtual setting, serving as a Grade 3–12 Math Teacher Leader. My academic journey led me to earn a doctorate from Oakland University, where my research focused on preparing future secondary mathematics educators to implement effective, technology-enhanced instructional strategies for 21st-century classrooms.

Throughout my career, I’ve embraced leadership roles such as high school department chair, math consultant, and mentor to new teachers—an honor that earned me recognition as an outstanding mentor. I’m passionate about staying current with emerging technologies and innovative teaching methods that empower students and prepare them for the future.

In my new role as Assistant Principal, my goal is to foster strong, trusting relationships with staff, families, students, and the broader community. Together, we will cultivate a school culture where teachers are inspired to teach and students are excited to learn. Our mission is clear: to elevate academic achievement through collaboration, care, and a shared love of learning.

I believe in open communication and maintain an open-door policy—please feel free to reach out with any questions, ideas, or concerns. I look forward to an incredible school year ahead.

Educationally,

Surinder Sandhu, Ph.D.

Assistant Principal,
