The school year is nearing an end, and we have a lot to celebrate. More students than ever are reading at or above grade level at Sampson-Webber. At the beginning of the school year, only 9% of students were reading at or above grade level. Due to the hard work of teachers, scholars, and the support of parents, we now have 29% of students reading at or above grade level. Similarly, in math, 25% of students are at or above grade level, while only 3% were at the start of this school year. It’s important that this year’s hard work is not only celebrated but maintained. Below are instructions on registering your scholar for summer learning. During the summer months, many students experience what is known as the summer slide. With a lack of educational experience during the summer, students actually decline in their academic abilities. Let’s prevent the summer slide by enrolling in summer school or other educational summer experiences.

Congratulations to all the scholars who met their typical and stretch growth on iReady. This week we will celebrate the academic growth of students with our iReady celebration. Students who met their stretch growth will be allowed to pie a staff member. We will also celebrate our Pre-K, Kindergarten, 5th, and 8th grade students with promotional ceremonies this week. The last celebration will be field day on June 9th. The final day of school is Tuesday, June 10. It is important that your scholar attends school for the final 7 days in order to maintain our strong growth in attendance.

Summer school enrollment is now open. All students are welcome to enroll. Our summer school is hosted at Barton from June 23 to July 25. The school day is 8:45 AM to 4:15 PM. Transportation is available through the district. Students who received a letter are strongly encouraged to attend summer school. Failure to attend and pass summer school will risk your scholar being retained in their current grade
