Mrs. Yolanda Smith
Mrs. Yolanda Smith is a very proud graduate of Detroit Public Schools, now DPSCD. She is also a proud graduate of an HBCU-Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Political Science. “I was inspired to begin my work in education because of my favorite Henry Ford High School teacher, Mrs. Sylvia Maddox, and my favorite Morris Brown professor, Dr. N. Farohki.” “The experiences gained from attending and graduating from an HBCU (Historically Black College and University), gave me the drive to want to make sure I played a part in uplifting every African American kid that came across my path.”
Mrs. Smith has been with DPSCD for over 30 years and is committed to continuing to pursue excellence within this district. She currently serves as Assistant Principal at Dixon Educational Learning Academy where the mantra they’ve adopted is, ”Challenge Accepted.” What’s the challenge that has been accepted? “We are modeling three of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits Of Highly Effect People…1. Seek to Understand then be Understood. 2. Begin with the End in Mind. 3. Put First Things First.
