Mr. Damarco James
Damarco James Jr. is the newly appointed Assistant Principal at Communication & Media Arts High School (CMA). With a deep commitment to student achievement, equity, and career-focused learning, Mr. James brings a student-centered leadership style rooted in both classroom experience and strategic school improvement.
Mr. James began his career in education as a Program Coordinator for the Office of Supportive Services at Michigan State University. He later took on leadership roles in managing student programming and community outreach as a Program Director for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant. Since joining DPSCD, he has served as a College Transition Advisor, Elementary school teacher and, most recently, as a Lead Teacher in the district, where he mentored fellow educators and supported instructional excellence across departments.
Mr. James has also spent the last three years serving as a Model Teacher for On the Rise Academy, DPSCD’s Alternative Route Program for teacher certification. In this role Mr. James focused directly on the coaching, evaluation, and training of early career teachers. Beyond that he has also served as a Mentor for DPSCD’s Early Career Teacher Support Team, mentoring newly minted educators entering employment with the district.
Throughout his career, he has focused on expanding access to academic support, bridging gaps in college and career readiness, and helping students develop the skills needed to thrive in and beyond high school.
As Assistant Principal, Mr. James is dedicated to advancing CMA’s mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence. He aims to promote a school culture where innovation, inclusion, and student voice drive daily learning experiences.
Quote: "I believe every student deserves a pathway to success that honors their identity, strengths, and future goals. At CMA, we’re building those pathways together."
