DPSCD Teacher Delivers on Family Legacy of Serving Students and Others

Since she was a young girl, Rachel Bellovich, a resource teacher at the District’s Ronald Brown Academy, knew she wanted to dedicate her life to educating children. For her, becoming a teacher meant contributing to the “family business”—her mom, stepmom, dad, sister, and grandparents all were a part of the DPSCD family.

While visiting her parent’s classrooms, Bellovich saw how much the students, fellow teachers and staff admired and respected the work of her loved ones. Observing her family’s passion and ongoing service, Bellovich quickly discovered she wanted that for herself as well.

In her role at Ronald Brown, she supports students with exceptional needs in third through fifth grade, teaching math and reading.  “Mrs. Bellovich operates with a high level of integrity and is committed to impacting the lives of all students,” says Ronald Brown Academy Principal Damon Pitt. And her passion and commitment to serving students is exemplified in her day to day actions.

When online learning first started last spring due to the pandemic, Bellovich chose to participate in face-to-face training to efficiently learn Microsoft Teams so she could help her students and colleagues. Bellovich held after school meetings so they could learn how to navigate the program. More than one year later, her superior leadership has helped many of the teachers at Ronald Brown provide a top-notch online education experience for their students.

She also has learned that acts of encouragement and creativity can motivate a child to succeed.

“As a teacher, I believe it’s important to differentiate learning and making learning more fun to increase student engagement,” Bellovich said.

Outside of the classroom, her dedication to her student’s rise has included leading the charge to solicit donations used to provide hands on coding and robotics experiences with her students. Every day at DPSCD, she keeps the legacy of the “Bellovich” name alive and well.
