Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) is Michigan’s largest public education system which serves approximately 50,000 students in Pre-Kindergarten through twelfth-grade in 106 schools. We are committed to providing a world class educational experience with a diverse workforce and student base.  Students are challenged with a rigorous curriculum that meets state standards.  We understand the importance of creating a sense of community and are intentionally focused on providing equity and excellence for all students and staff.  We invest in our talent as we are continuously building a team of dedicated staff.  Whether you are interested in a position that is school based or in central office, we are looking for highly qualified and tenacious individuals who want to make an impact.  DPSCD offers competitive salaries and a wide array of benefits.  You can find a synopsis of our benefits listed below.

    Medical Benefits

DPSCD offers a comprehensive core benefit package for all benefit eligible employees.  Employees can choose from six (6) medical insurance plans to select one that best meets their family’s needs.  These are made up of four (4) Blue Care Network HMO Healthy Blue Living options, one (1) Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and one (1) Health Alliance Plan HMO option.  We also offer three (3) dental options through Delta Dental of Michigan, an EPO and two (2) PPO options.  The District provides three (3) vision plans as well for employees to choose from through Heritage Vision Plans and District paid term life insurance.  More comprehensive information regarding benefits is located at https://www.detroitk12.org/Page/9007#calendar16249/20190306/month.

    Flexible Saving Accounts

The District offers Medical and Dependent Flexible Savings Accounts to assist employees with their medical and child care costs.  These plans allow employees to use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible health care (e.g. medical, dental and vision) and child care expenses.

    Supplemental Life

In addition to the term life insurance the District provides, employees may also enroll for supplemental life insurance coverage and apply for up to five (5) times their annual salary in coverage by submitting evidence of insurability.  New hires, upon initial enrollment can elect up to two (2) times their salary without providing evidence of insurability.

    Retirement

DPSCD participates in the State Retirement System through the State of Michigan Office of Retirement Services.  Employees who are new to public school employment in Michigan can choose between two (2) different retirement options.  The first option is a hybrid option that includes a defined savings plan as well as a pension plan.  The second option is strictly a defined contribution savings plan.  Complete information is available through the State of Michigan Office of Retirement Services at http://pickmiplan.org.  Employees previously enrolled in a State Retirement plan who did not cash out will be reenrolled in their previous plan and continue to build upon their years of vesting.

    403b/457 Participation

In addition to the State Retirement System, the District also offers 403b and 457 plans for employees to elect to participate in to diversify their retirement savings.  Additional information regarding plan offerings can be located at https://www.detroitk12.org/Page/9009.
